Healthy Treats for Valentine's Day

Healthy Treats for Valentine's Day

February 14th is almost here, which means stores are stocking up with Valentine’s themed chocolates, candies and sweets. It can be tempting to grab a few seasonal treats, but we have found some delicious Valentine’s Day sweets that are not only delicious, but are a healthier alternative than the store bought options.

Rice Krispie Treats
Homemade Rice Krispie treats are a classic snack that are easy to make. Compared to the store bought options, the homemade variety is a better choice. These Rice Krispie treats use strawberry marshmallows and jell-o mix to get the pink color and strawberry flavor. Try using sugar-free jell-o and add in freeze-dried strawberries as healthier alternatives. Also, using a heart-shaped cookie cutter is a must-do for the perfect presentation.

Chocolate Love Bark
Chocolate bark is one of the simplest desserts to make! Besides being easy, chocolate bark is customizable, allowing you to add as many healthy additions as your heart desires. This healthy bark uses dark chocolate, freeze dried raspberries (for a pop of red), and almonds. As you know dark chocolate is healthier compared to both milk and white chocolates, and adding fruit and nuts helps to boost the nutritional profile of the dessert. If you want to make it extra sweet, add a few sprinkles for fun, a little bit never hurts!

Chocolate Strawberry Pops
Chocolate strawberries are a classic dessert, but this recipe has a fun twist turning the strawberries into hearts and adding a lollipop stick! To make these fun pops even healthier, use dark chocolate as opposed to milk chocolate. The sweetness of the strawberry will pair even better with dark chocolate, making this a yummy treat for both kids and adults alike. (Recipe and photo from California Strawberries)
