How To Unwind

With many of us working from home, it can be hard to fully shut down for the day. With our smartphones and laptops on us constantly, we need to make a conscious effort to completely log off at the end of the work day. We have listed some ideas to help you unwind, unplug and enjoy your evening to the fullest. 

Set A Stop Time
It may be tempting to send off one more email or complete one more spread sheet, but this actually does more harm than good. Set a designated log-off time, if you enjoy working a little longer to finish up projects, account for that. Perhaps tack on an extra 15 to 20 minutes at the end of your work day, but after the time is up, close your work for the night. This includes any work notification on your phone, silence them after hours or do not connect them to your personal devices.

Look Forward To Something
Have a little treat at the end of the workday to celebrate a job well done! Whether it is a glass or wine or an episode of your favorite show, end the day and start your evening off on a high note. We love ending our work day in a positive way to help us get ready for a relaxing evening ahead.

Plan A Bit
One of the most daunting after work tasks is making dinner. Make your life a little easier, plan some meals on Sunday. If you enjoy meal prepping, this is a great opportunity to take advantage! If not, a list of meal ideas for the week can take the guesswork out of the dreaded “what should I eat tonight” scenario. 

Create A Ritual
We tend to stick to habits that are done in sequence, also known as a ritual. Create a nightly ritual that is not only relaxing, but pleasing as well. Some ideas to include are soft music as you make dinner, a warm bath or shower with lavender soap, a cup of tea and a few pages of a book. These activities are a wonderful way to unwind and allows you to take a break from your screen. 

Make A Call
When was the last time you called someone on the phone? We are so accustomed to texting and emailing, having an actual telephone conversation is a thing of the past. Once or twice a week, schedule a phone call with a family or friend. Just hearing their voice can put a positive spin on your evening.
